I've looked all over for this, but can't seem to find it, I'm trying to rename music files to include the track number in the song title i.e. 001-this is my song from "this is my song".
The scan gives the same alphabet sorting as i get in my mp3 player(this is the way the smaller units work as you probably know)
How do I make sure the scan sorts the tracks by track number (which is listed in explorer) and not alphabetically? It adds the 001 correctly but it adds it to the "a" song first een thought the first track might be a "C"

when you run the scan the sort order is by pathname/filename.

What you want to do is:
1)
This is not required but you might want to enable the track number column of the preview display (right click on any of the column headers of the preview page to find the appropriate option).
2)
in the options window, select the 'music info insertion' panel. on the right side you'll see a formatter that will allow you to choose the track number for insertion. The default insertion key is %Artist% - replace it with the track number key.
3)
Now run the scan using the following lines in the custom renaming creator (do not include the single quotes):

Row: 1
Search:
Replace: '*Insert Music Information before*All*'

4)
The preview page should show new filenames prefixed with track numbers.
It doesn't matter how you sort the columns, the track numbers from within a file will be used to prefix the filename.

Hope that helps,

Peter.
