Hi;

I thought PFrank was capable of changing the file creation date. I can't see how to do it- can PFrank do this? If so how?

Thanks

Yes, PFrank, although it was initially designed for renaming, can also be used to change the creation dates. Here are the steps:
1)
select a folder in the 'current folder ' [panel of the main window.
2)
From the main window menubar, choose 'View -> Options...'. The Options Window will appear. On the left side of the window select 'General Display' The right side of the window will then show a checkbox labelled 'Show Unchanged Items'. Check this box and press Apply or OK. THis is an important step because otherwise the preview window in the next step will not show any files unless you are renaming them. You never have to do this step again as the setting will be retained.
3)
Back to the main window. Press Scan. Now the preview window will appear and display alll files in the current folder. Columns showing the last modified date/times and creation date/times are displayed by default.
4)
Now use the mouse to select the rows that need to have their creation date changed. THen right click over the preview list; a menu will pop up. From here select the 'Modify File Properties' for selected rows. A new window will pop up in which you configure the creation date - when you press Apply or OK in this window, the dates will change.

If you need more Information, then let me know.

Peter.

Changing the creation date for folders doesn't work for me either. I'll investigate.
Thanks for letting me know.

OK - I've found that all the folders on my Windows XP system are read only. When I right click on a folder, select 'Properties', and then try to clear the read-only state, it appears to work but when I right click again and check the properties, the read-only is back.

Since the folders are read-only, then their file properties cannot be changed. The following article indicates that no folder properties in Windows XP/2003 can be changed: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326549/en-us

All I can do for now is to improve the error reporting to reflect what is returned by the OS (in this case it is 'file access denied') .

Peter.
