Hello,
the product is absolutely great, but I'm struggling to find a way to replace anything non-ascii (especially asian characters) with ascii characters or a simple number sequence, while preserving the extension.

What I need is the following... I want PFrank to detect files any file with asian characters like:

- 配件成本外贸报价.xls and rename it to asianfile001.xls
- 08류성용.xls and rename it to asianfile002.xls
- _DSC0023挖.jpg and rename it to asianfile003.jpg

etc....

Could anyone please show me the light? I've tried for a while already but cannot find the way to do this.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Alex

This has to be done with a plugin.
If I understand you correctly, you want to change the prefix to 'asian<number>' if there are any asian characters present in the name.
If true, then try the "newly created" plugin at:

http://www3.telus.net/pfrank/PFrank_AssignAsian_Plugin.py

Just follow the instructions in the header of the file for installing.
Once installed, you should be able to select the plugin command from the
pre-defined command menu and insert it into the custom renaming creator list.

Hope this helps Very Happy

If you like it let me know and I'll make it available on the PFrank Plugins Web Page in case anyone else in the world needs this or similar functionality!

Peter.

Hello Peter,
Thanks for the extraordinarly fast reaction time. I was wrong: yours isn't a great utility, it is an extraordinary one!

I do however run into a small problem:
I just installed the plugin, and when I start PFrank I get the error message below.
I installed the new plugin file as PFrankUser.py in the proper directory (I'm not using any other plugin so I just renamed the file I downloaded). Then I associated with Notepad to allow editing.
I'm sure I'm doing something wrong here, but I cannot figure out what...

I'll keep trying, but would be really glad if you could guide me through this.
Many, many thanks again!
Alex

PS - I've just sent you a PP donation (captainbluesky), and I encourage all PFrank users to do the same - this software will save me a serious headache, as my office server backup utility stalls on asian characters. Thank you!

Sorry - it's my fault.
The UserRenamerList was conditionally compiled out.

I uploaded a new version of the plugin at:

http://www3.telus.net/pfrank/PFrank_AssignAsian_Plugin.py

Let me know if there are any problems.

And thanks for the donation - it's much appreciated!

Peter.
