hi

I'm looking for a way to distribute files to subdirectories but without any rule available from the files.

If I had 285 files, I want to put the first 100 into subfolder 1 (say), the next 100 into subfolder 2, etc.

Is this where a plugin would be used, or is there a built in way?

cheers

Hi,

Correct - there is no built-in way to do what you ask. A plugin would be required.

Hi

Thanks for confirming that.

Would it be possible to use a digit or digits from a file's timestamp for creation etc as a randomising field. That would create up to 60 sub folders or even more if I combined multiple digits e.g. from a timestamp 13:45:48 there are lots of options if I can get hold of each number...

Regards

boggy

Yes, the python library provides functions for reading timestamps from files which could then be converted to a string and combined in any way to create sub-foldernames which can then be used to create subfolders.
