I have created the following file using the pfrank. For the same event, there are pictures from other cameras. I would like to rename the entire collection using new counter after sorting it in the scan section.

Existing File name:
20100126 NIKON D40X event_001.jpg

New File name(proposed):
20101226 event counter cameraModel.jpg

Ps. the old counter from the existing file can be deleted and need to insert new counter!

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

I'd like to see a few more before and aftrer examples before I try to come up with a custom renaming creator.

questions I have are:
1)
are all existing files using the format you gave. i.e.
<date> <camera> >event_xxx>
2)
Is there always an underscore character between the event and the xxx event number
3)
Is the event always one word? If it is not, then it will be difficult if not impossible to distinguish the camera model from the event.
4)
In your example, ist looks like you gave a generic new file name. Is the real file name: 20100126 event counter NIKON D40X.jpg

Thanks,

Peter.

Hi Peter

Thanks for your reply.

1. all the files are using the same naming structure
<date> <cameramodel> <event>_<counter>.jpg

2. There is always an underscore prior to the counter

3. <event> is always a single word, there is no spaces or anything

4. Here is a sample of the file name that I have got
20100126 NIKON D40X AustraliaDay@TomsHouse_001.jpg <= original

The main issue is that I have got pictures from the same day using a different camera. I would like to first sort all my pictures (from all cameras) and then rename them...

20100126 AustraliaDay@TomsHouse_001 NIKON D40X.jpg
20100126 AustraliaDay@TomsHouse_002 PANASONIC FH1.jpg
20100126 AustraliaDay@TomsHouse_003 NIKON D40X.jpg

I hope I have been able to explain all your questions and thank you once again.

Cheers
ozshabs

Hi,

You can use the built-in functionality of PFrank to rearrange the words the way you want, but you will need a plugin to then presort the entries so that you get the groups of events for different cameras and then add the counter.

It might also be possible to use a combination of multiple renaming passes and the grouping feature to add the counter values. I actually tried this approach but ran into what appears to be a bug with the counter grouping feature.

Sorry I don't have a satisfying answer for this one.

Peter.
