A few more from my PFrank wishlist, pl consider:

1. Assign hotkeys to each of the Renaming Types - 'Files', 'Folders', and 'Files and Folders' (say, F2/F3/F4). This way the user won't have to go to the Options box just to check one of these. Or, place buttons corresponding to these functions on the main PFrank interface. My point so far may be shortened thus: to place as many controls as possible on the main window where they are within easy reach.

2. Another button I'd like to see on the 'Preview' window is 'Close', made the 'default', placed near the 'Rename' and 'Undo' buttons.

3. The 'Custom Renaming' box....
Selecting a grid line highlights the whole line. Wish it could be cleared through the Delete button.

Request #2 is a good idea. It is implemented in the upcoming version 1.96

Request #1 - I understand the request and have agonized over what options should go in the main window and which ones in the option window. One goal of the gui design was to only put options that are likely to change often on the main window. The renaming types feature (files-only, folders-only, or both) is a type of filter which I placed on an option page dedicated to filters that are not likely to change too often. That page has many other types of filters available (min/max name/path length, exclusion, subfolders, subfolder exclusion, max subfolder levels, regex or wildcard format. To put all these filters on the main page would (in my opinion) be way too cluttered. My thinking was that most people would probably set these filters once and then leave them. If the logic is incorrect and there should be more filters on the main window, then i'd like to hear from more people about it.

I have some questions about Request #3. If you press TAB to move to the next GUI control, then any rows highlighted in blue will instead be highlighted by a much lighter colour. Would that be acceptable or is the goal to get rid of all highlighting (which means you wouldn't know which row is selected)?
With request #1 implemented, when you now switch to the preview window, the preview list is no longer highlighted in dark blue - it instead has the lighter highlighting because it is no longer the default focus (the 'close' button is). Would that fulfull request #3?
I'd have to understand the exact reason for this request before considering to make this change.

Thanks very much for the input; it's much appreciated.

I tend to believe that the best feeling next to coding successfully is to have your say in the programming. My sincere gratitude, admin! I feel really honoured to be welcomed here.

Kindly allow me to indulge in a few more lines. One of the main reasons why I want more and more buttons/commands on the main window is that it makes for quicker and easier handling of files. This way even simple users not so familiar with regex etc can straightaway execute meaningful commands. It was no great wonder that Windows in general triumphed over console-based apps. Considering the time it takes to load, I opine: what's wrong with cluttering up the main PFrank window with directly clickable commands, if the duration's not drastically worsened? I'd consider it joyful if all these cited options "min/max name/path length, exclusion, subfolders, subfolder exclusion, max subfolder levels, regex or wildcard format" are shown! Rather than being unwieldy, I believe that they will be so much more handy. Instead of staying hidden behind submenus of menus, they are much more pleasing and easier to reach when in the open. Let the hidden potential of PFrank be unravelled!

I asked for the features of Request #1 because my work often involves the renaming of folders. And I find it a rather difficult going to approach the menus and then again the submenus to change between the one and the other. Not to mention the irritation emanating from the inability to see which option has already been set! For this kind of purpose, easily visible checkboxes would do best.

As for Request #3, my wish is not at all to do away with the highlighting. Rather, it is this: assign the Delete button the function that the 'Clear Selected Rows' command does, for speed sake. This way we could continue to use a common practice gained from many other programs. If I may add, regarding the spelling, I would prefer the menu item renamed as
Clear Selected Row(s) instead of the current
Clear Selected Rows
as there's a possibility of selecting single lines. Why, in renaming, accuracy pays!

Finally, thanks for continuing to zealously develop such a powerful program!

Rereading my previous post (above), I find that these words "Why, in renaming, accuracy pays!" are absolutely inappropriate here. I wouldn't have normally addressed them to the "admin", a man I admire for his thoroughness. I consider this a blunder, and apologise for it.

Most of request #3 is now ready for the upcoming 1.96 version. You will now be able to press the 'delete' key to clear selected lines. Thanks for this idea!
I also added the use of the 'insert' key to add blank lines. Plus some other goodies Smile

I didn't, however, change the instances of 'rows' to 'row(s)' because although it is more grammatically correct, it opens up a can of worms for other menu selections some of which can't switch between singular and plural with the simple addition of an 's'. If you spot anything else in the menus, help, tooltips, etc. that seems non-standard, inaccutate, or incorrect then please let me know.

As for request #2, I'll see what I can do but I have to be careful. My current thinking is to add checkboxes for files and folders and maybe some kind of 'more filters' button for quickly jumping to the options page where the rest of the filters are. No promises but I might be able to squeeze in some more filters on the main window and see what the response is. This might take awhile though since things are getting quite busy as far as non-PFrank activities.

In connection with the second point (top) ("2. Another button I'd like to see on the 'Preview' window is 'Close', made the 'default', placed near the 'Rename' and 'Undo' buttons."), I'm happy to see and use the new 'Close' button. Yet, if it is feasible, kindly consider bringing in the 'Escape' key for the same purpose. This, I believe, will ease things three-times-fold!

Maybe, something similar for the main window too?

Using the escape key to close a window is a good suggestion. Thanks!
I've now added that capability for all subwindows. I didn't, however, add it for the main window since it might be too easy to accidently exit the program.
This new functionality will be available in 1.97.

Fantastic!

Waiting for the time when "will be available" becomes "is now available" for version 1.97!

So many thanks!

What we now have is to hit the 'Del key' once to clear the selected line(s).
Hitting twice does nothing extra. Suppose hitting this key the second time
brings up (and clears) the following line?

If empty lines do not affect the custom scan process then, I'm afraid, this
won't mean much of anything. However, I believe that such an introduction
will make things more compact, and that could be good while saving settings.

I agree that there needs to be more than just clearing the line when Del is hit.
But rather than going to the next line, what I thinkI'm going to do is open the editor at the first selected line. ie. if lines 3,7, and 8 are selected, then Del will clear them all and open the editor at line 3.

Del key in the Preview

Wish the Del key deletes/removes the selected line(s) from the
"Detailed Information (Sortable Mode)"/Preview window.

Also the 'Cancel Edit in Selected Row' function is not very
friendly. It leaves the, say, mp3 file like this:
"Simple-simon.mp3.PF0000"
I have to go and remove the .PF0000 ext. Any other way?

I'd like to have a 'Leave as is (no edit)' command in its
place (which seems to be the same thing! Smile)

You can already use CTL-Delete to delete a row.
Also, try F11 or F12 for fast editing of the preview list.

For the cancel edit issue, it looks like you inadvertently created a duplicate name with the editing. I agree that cancelling edit should update the duplicate file name as well as the originally edited file. I'll put this on the todo list.
Thanks for pointing out this problem!

Peter.

The cancel edit issue will be fixed in version 2.02.
